Most drivers already use GPS in their cars to help them to navigate to their destinations, but two innovative web based companies hope that consumers will want to surf and drive. Enter tiwi and DriveNtalk. Both companies think that car manufacturers will want to secure contracts with them given the way that consumers are gobbling up portable web access technology. The first company, tiwi, offers a dashboard tracking system that allows parents to keep close tabs on their teen drivers. Unlike other tracking devices parents will literally be able to see exactly what their children are doing behind the well in real time. After logging onto the appropriate website, parents of teen drivers can see how their children handle high stress driving situations. They will also be able to observe how their teen drivers react, specifically they will receive information on how their kids turn, brake and accelerate. This technology may not become standard in every vehicle but car dealerships will likely jump at the chance to corner the market.
DriveNtalk is slightly different. This company helps drivers to charge all of their portable devices without needing to use batteries. Using the car charger, DriveNtalk will allow you to simultaneously charge up your cell phone, iPod and other devices. Although there are other similar charges on the line, experts have been raving about their technology. If DriveNtalk wants a fair shot at being picked up be a car company they will certainly need to create more of a ‘wow’ factor. Both products are currently available to consumers, so you can test them out and come to your own conclusions. There are many other companies that are hard at work developing products that they think that consumers will want, but ultimately customers will only make an investment when they absolutely need them.
