Vehicles designed to consume less energy, emit less pollution and feature a much smaller carbon foot print are all the rage right now and a new kind of car is about to hit the United States that just may change things for those who live in cities and want an easier way to get around without using near the energy needed to do so today. The Smart ForTwo car will have an electric drive mini car that is coming to US shores in the Fall of 2010. Smart USA is offering ForTwo Electric Drive test rides in the streets of New York in an effort to raise awareness of their new product. If the market is willing to accept what the company has to offer they may be able to sell well since they are quite small in size and work well in the intense traffic that cities feature. The fact that the cars are so small in size means that they are easier to park, say some, and do not require near as much in terms of things that will need to be done for them to get through tight spots.
Unlike other companies in the alternative fuel car making market, ForTwo is intending to aim its concepts at a market that is interested in sustainable solutions rather than simply a car that would have a different type of fuel but basically resemble the majority of US vehicles already in use. Smart USA is interested in bringing the new vehicle to those who are seeking a different solution that is more niche in nature. The customers the company wants are those who are trying to be ahead of the curve, not just keep up. Leases will be offered for the first line of cars, running just under $600 per month.
