Logitech To Expand Beyond Computer Peripherals

Google has been looking for a way to get their proposed Google TV project into the living rooms of consumers for quite awhile now, and Logitech just may be the manufacturer to deliver them. Logitech got their first taste of the traditional home entertainment market when they started to sell television remote controls a few years ago. By teaming up with Google, Logitech has a solid chance of being known for much more than keyboard accessories. The companies are basing their off of projections that predict that the Internet will increase five fold, and that social networking will move beyond text interactions into the realm of video conferencing. Logitech hopes to target teens, as they have a habit of responding positively to anything related to new social communication technology. Thinking that teenagers will want to make conference calls in the UK with their Facebook friends may be a lofty goal, but the company seems to think it is feasible.

Google is still having a hard time getting free access television networks to agree to collaborate with them, but the possibility of using Internet based video games may fill in that void, at least for awhile. This is another way that both Google and Logitech hope to gain popularity in the teen age group. While Logitech thinks that younger users interested in the social aspect of their products will get a buzz going, they believe that businesses and North American users will be highly receptive to the practicability of their free conference call software subscriptions. Neither company knows how consumers will respond to the ‘Internet for your television’ products they are backing. After all, this is not the first time that consumers have seen them, and past products ended up being a major flop. If Google and Logitech are able to angle their products towards the social networking crowd, they may have a chance of getting consumers to take their endeavors seriously.
