Video game hardware and software giant Nintendo of Japan has states that it will be bringing to market a brand new kind of console, the likes of which the world has not yet seen. According to the recent reports coming out of the E3 event in Los Angeles, the President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has told Japanese media that he intends to bring out a brand new 3D capable game console in the coming years. Instead of hoping on the band wagon that was set in motion by the popularity of James Cameron’s blockbuster Hollywood smash Avatar, the company wants to wait to perfect their 3D technology. According to Iwata, the reason for this is so that they will be able to create a better experience for viewers where they will have the opportunity to get the visual experience without having to buy new additions for their current Wii console. It also gives the company time to come up with a much better plan than relying on the new 3D TV sets as a way to make their games have the third dimension. Instead, Nintendo plans to observe adoption stats of the new TV sets and get a sense of what percentage of people are adopting the new way to view media in 3D.
For now, Nintendo fans will have to make due with the portable Nintendo 3DS gaming system that will give them 2 different screens and allow gamers to enjoy the 3D gaming experience without any need for glasses. This device is set for a release in late 2010, the first testing of the market for Nintendo which had planned something similar prior to the rush for 3D in the media market place. Pricing is not yet set on the 3DS.
